Grassroots Basketball thrives to provide a platform to support; connect and grow the community & build a sustainable infrastructure for the growth of basketball across Hampshire. Grassroots Basketball is not only about supporting the facilitation of providing the basic level of Basketball to all who want to access it but also connecting grassroots partners at the heart of the local basketball community. Grassroots Basketball believes that with collaboration; accountability and connection of the Basketball Community across Hampshire that we can facilitate maximum development opportunities whilst acknowledging and accepting that we are working with limited resources of both time, money & volunteers.

Grassroots Basketball believes that anyone that wants to play basketball should be able to access sessions within their local area, regardless of their financial status; gender, sexuality, disability, or ethnicity. Grassroots Basketball believes that its platform will ultimately bear part of the weight in supporting Grassroots Partners to facilitate the growth and become part of a community with a shared responsibility to help sustain the longevity of Grassroots Basketball in Hampshire.
Our Goals, but we prefer Buckets
Ultimately, Grassroots Basketball aims to provide a platform that offers support in a number of ways. This support will be for both individuals; parents, coaches & support staff, assisting current clubs and those wanting to set up a satellite hub or club. Grassroots Basketball will do this by offering guidance; information, funding information, templates, and podcasts/blogs – taking the unknown out of the often daunting tasks of setting up a club or maintaining active communication within the community.
While we acknowledge that Basketball England has an array of information on their website and within their staffing structure; we also know from first-hand experience that the Governing Body needs some more local, grassroots support to ensure that basketball can reach those children & young people that may have been lost to the sport as a result of the pandemic as it is recognised that basketball has suffered the negative impact of Covid more than most sports. This is especially true of those from the lower socio-economic groups and black & minority ethnic communities, which make up a significant part of the diverse basketball family.

Speak to us. Reach out on social media. Do you have like-minded individuals to help? Do some market research and build a local page to gain some traction. Speak to Basketball England and get affiliated. Complete DBS checks and safeguarding certificates. Speak to local venues and hold a session.

Get a reliable CRM system, and grow your team. Get off Whatsapp, and find qualified coaches looking for opportunities to learn and develop. Speak to local businesses about sponsorship packages. Find a local league, and Let’s Go!

Over the next 3-18 months initially; Grassroots Basketball wants to make progress to where the opportunities to access basketball across Hampshire have greatly increased based on demand, diversity & inclusion & that also provides a better base for the greater basketball community’s growth in the South Region.
